Bluebeard Beach

St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands

St. Thomas' Bluebeard Beach is located east of town on Bolongo Road, formerly a isolated bay is nowadays a serene, placid and well maintained beach surrounded by palm lined walkways and popping up into the travelers most wanted destinations as the newest Ritz Carlton Resort home but accessible to domestic and international visitors through a public access road just passing the resorts main entrance.

Relax at Bluebeard Beach with the frequently view of passing sailboats, windsurfers and kite boarders or take a walk by the pebbles seashore observing the abundance of sea grass in the water or the luxury time share properties nearby

Facilities and amenities include bathrooms, beach chairs, restaurant, bar, pool and the resort itself including a water sports center with a range of options from kayaking to windsurfing although the snorkeling in this area of the Virgin Islands is poor to fair; the swimming is calm to gentle surf but snorkeling is only available by the rock at the far end of the beach.

Bluebeard Beach on St. Thomas USVI Bluebeard's main attraction is the breathtaking views from Bluebeard's Castle on the eastern edge of the beach with red rooftops and one of the first sights for arriving cruise passengers is an historic property dating back to the 1600's set on a secluded hilltop overlooking the harbor and city of Charlotte Amalie. A French man born Giles de Rais became the infamous swashbuckling pirate Bluebeard around 1689 when he picked the prime location on the island to construct the round watch tower in the top of the hill for his love Mercedita and from which he could see the ocean in all directions watching and waiting to invade the Spanish ships although some call the story a legend replaces it with another more historic explanation: it was around 1689 when the Danes built the tower as watchtower to aid the defenses of Fort Christian.

Whatever it be the real background, the present day old fortress at Bluebeard Beach is a modern resort with the look of the centuries in its facade but all amenities to make it the prefect gateway; a large outdoor pool, indoor sauna, tennis courts, game room and grocery store are just few of them. Another less notorious castle is the Blackbeard's Castle originally called Fort Skytsborga and the stronghold of the notorious pirate Edward Teach, commonly known as Blackbeard.

Both, Bluebeard's Castle and Blackbeard's Castle with their enchanting combination of tropical gardens and dream beach environment make the perfect scene to celebrate wedding with iguanas as witness of the ceremony.

Bluebeard Beach accessibility is based in cars and taxis usually available at the hotel lobby or calling the dispatcher so don't be hesitate to take a brief gateway to Bluebeard Beach in your next visit to St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands.
